And we know that T+L readers have been traveling just about everywhere this year. According to the United Nations Tourism Office, as many as 790 million people traveled abroad in the first seven months of 2024, an 11 percent increase from 2023 figures and an almost complete return to pre-pandemic levels.
The Middle East in particular showed the strongest growth, with international arrivals increasing by 26 percent from 2019 levels, followed by African tourist numbers, which increased by 7 percent compared to 2019. And as the United Nations pointed out, Europe and the Americas both reached 99 percent, and tourist numbers reached 99 percent. 97% of pre-pandemic arrivals, respectively.
