Chinese self-driving technology startup WeRide has unveiled its next-generation production robotaxis GXR, which it claims is the world’s widest production robotaxis to date.
According to yesterday’s announcement, the GXR has an overall length of 5,018mm, a cabin clearance of 1,340mm, and a wheelbase of 3,100mm.
The exterior of the robotaxi is a typical MPV (multipurpose vehicle) design, as opposed to the small sedans, SUVs (sports utility vehicles), or minivans that are common in this sector.
WeRide was the first in the industry to eliminate the first-row passenger seat on the GXR to provide more space for passengers.
The company says the robotaxis are equipped with WeRide’s full-scenario L4 autonomous driving hardware and software system, which is designed with redundant core systems such as computing units and brakes to improve safety. That’s what it means.
WeRide GXR comes with a sensor suite called Sensor Suite 5.6 and an HPC 2.0 computing platform.
Sensor Suite 5.6 features over 20 sensors, including LiDAR, HD high-dynamic cameras, and RTK high-precision composite inertial guidance modules to scan your surroundings 360° and sense objects up to 200 meters away .
According to WeRide, the HPC 2.0 computing platform provides over 1,300 TOPS of AI computing power to meet your computing needs.
The company says GXR’s L4 autonomous driving capabilities can easily handle complex scenarios such as morning and evening rush hours, mixed pedestrian and vehicle traffic, and nighttime highway driving.
After robotaxis officially enter public service, passengers can choose to experience the model through WeRide’s mobile app in China.
WeRide was founded in 2017 and its products include robo-taxi, mini-robobuses, robovans, robo-street sweepers, and SAE L2-L4 solutions for high-level intelligent driving.
The company is currently testing and operating autonomous driving in 30 cities in seven countries, and is the only company to simultaneously obtain autonomous driving test licenses in four countries: China, the United States, the UAE, and Singapore. Go to the WeRide website.
On September 25, WeRide announced a strategic partnership with Uber to advance the use of self-driving cars on Uber’s platform, starting with operations in the UAE.
The partnership will initially be implemented in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi, by the end of this year, where a fleet of WeRide self-driving cars will be available and available on the Uber app.
