WEIRTON — The countdown to Christmas has already begun for many people, including many pets who are waiting for another visit from St. Nick.
For the third year, the Weirton Festival Committee has launched a campaign to find the cutest Christmas pet.
Entries and votes are now being accepted for the Main Street Christmas Cute Christmas Pet Photo Contest, according to festival committee members.
“The Weirton Festival Committee is excited to announce the triennial Cutest Christmas Pet Photo Contest,” explained Deputy City Manager and committee member DeAnn Pulliam.
This is an online photo contest that anyone from anywhere in the country can participate in. The contest will run until November 15th. This year’s sponsor is Pet Supplies Plus. Taylor & Makricostas PLLC; Nick’s Towing, Collision Center, Automotive Sales and Rebuild. Weirton Kroger. and Outback Steakhouse.
“We’re happy to be a part of it,” said James Bellon, store manager for Pet Supplies Plus in Weirton.
Over $2,000 in prizes are up for grabs for the top three, with prizes including gift cards.
There is a $10 fee for photo entries, which includes 10 votes. Additional votes are available through donations.
A portion of the proceeds from the contest will be donated to the Hancock County Humane Foundation.
