When I heard these words read by Colette Travel’s wonderful tour manager, Jackie Herron, at the end of my journey across Ireland, they really hit home.
“There are no strangers, only friends you have never met.”
The words of the late Irish poet William Butler Yeats could not be more true when we reflect on our nine-day journey from Dublin along the Irish coast and think of the group of WBEN listeners who traveled with us. Although we had only met them just a few days before our trip, we discovered the wonders of welcoming Ireland together, a bond of friendship was formed, and we parted ways from Buffalo Niagara International Airport.
Our trip was a busy one, starting with two days exploring the city of Dublin, the Guinness Storehouse, and the culture of the population centers of the East of Ireland.
We then started meandering along the coast, traveling south and stopping in Waterford to visit Blarney Castle and the infamous Blarney Stone.
The Ring of Kerry tour ended in all its glory in Kilkenny and Killarney.
Moving north along the western coastline, the Cliffs of Moher did not disappoint. Strong coastal winds kept out the showers and provided great photo opportunities of the jagged coastline.
We headed to Limerick and Galway and ended our trip in the enchanting grounds of Cabra Castle, where we spent the night like kings and queens.
There’s a truly rustic feel to life in Ireland, a constant reminder of the country’s medieval history etched into its landscape.
It was an honor to share this experience with a group of dedicated WBEN listeners who now all share a bond of friendship and look forward to their next destination, anytime, anywhere.
“May the road rise to meet you.”
