FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — In just over three weeks, people will head to the polls or drop off their ballots to choose America’s next president.
Both Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump have strong supporters.
Visalia Unified Superintendent Kirk Schramm said he was pleased that people were participating and that the district was encouraging public participation.
“We want our students, their families and their communities to be involved, so we know there are a lot of feelings and emotions that come with a presidential election or any major election,” Schramm said. spoke.
To stay focused on learning in the classroom, the district has created a webpage where students, parents and staff can find answers to frequently asked questions, Schramm said.
“What happens in class? Is there a discussion? Or is it okay to wear a political shirt? We’ve been transparent about all of that,” Schramm said.
Schramm said the rules haven’t changed, but he wanted to make it easier to access.
Dozens of dropdowns include whether students can hand out political leaflets to other students on campus, whether teachers should respond when asked about their political votes, affiliations, and views, and candidates. It details whether students can come to campus.
“This is a great way for people to know ahead of time that things are going to happen heading into November,” Schramm said.
Schramm said the district would be happy to answer questions about policies not addressed on the website.
They want people to be able to express themselves, but they also want everyone to feel comfortable at school.
“At the end of the day, this is about valuing everyone’s voice, understanding what our processes are, understanding our limitations, and ensuring that everyone is safe and that we have transparency in information.” “It’s about making it happen,” Schramm said.
