On October 15th, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show returned to our screens after a six-year hiatus. With a stellar line-up of veteran Angels and newly minted models, the runway recreated the glamorous mayhem of past seasons. But for those who fondly remember the event as a cornerstone of 2000s style, it was never just about lingerie, it was about beauty.
Perhaps the 21st century’s “phenomenal” beauty feat, the 2024 VS Fashion Show promised tons of talent, big eyelashes, and bigger hair. Led by make-up artist Diane Kendall and hairstylist Duffy, their beautiful looks provided plenty of inspiration. However, after the show ended, many netizens took to social media to ask, “Where is the explosion?”
A staple of the brand’s previous shows and campaigns, the classic blowout with its deep red, highlighted complexion and sublime pink gloss seemed right for the return. When Gigi Hadid kicked off her glamorous runway with a flowing bob and moody satin lip, all bets were off. Next up, legendary angel Candice Swanepoel swaggered away from the big girls and instead showed off her deadly face card with a high ponytail pulled back. Models Anok Yai and Paloma Elsesser also took notice of this sophisticated look.

In terms of make-up, some, like the returning angel Grace Elizabeth, displayed a girl-next-door charm, with her subdued look emphasizing the model’s angelic features.

But for a more modern spin, models Alex Consani, Bella Hadid and Jasmine Tookes sported a more sultry bronzed smokey eye and brownish-nude lips for an edgier look. The look took the runway by storm.
To achieve this look, Kendall’s team buffed a dark brown kohl pencil onto the eyelids as a base and applied a sheer, shimmery shadow on top for a dewy glow.

Of course, some of the tousled waves were reminiscent of the glamor of the show’s heyday, including Jill Kortrave, Liu Wen, Ashley Graham and Imaan Hammam.

As some have noted, the show has typically catered to the ideals of the male gaze, but this 2024 version is more feminine on the glam, emphasizing each model’s unique beauty. It was characterized by a central approach.
