NEW YORK (WABC) — The holiday season is just weeks away, and if you’re planning on hitting the road, rail or air, experts say now is the ideal time to book.
Travel expert Katie Nastro joined Eyewitness News to share some tips for travelers to get the most bang for their buck.
When to book your trip:
According to Nastro, the most ideal time to book a winter vacation is during the summer. Most people don’t think about winter during the height of summer, but booking your trip several months in advance can reduce the financial strain you’ll incur as your travel date approaches. Masu.

Travel windows to avoid:
When it comes to holidays like Thanksgiving, there are several days that experts recommend travelers avoid.
Nastro emphasized that the Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving are bad days for travel.
“Typically, on average, it’s the most expensive and busiest day. Same goes for the Sunday after the Thanksgiving holiday, which is the busiest day of the year on record, according to TSA,” she said. added.
Nastro said the best travel results usually go to those who are flexible with their dates. She also suggested traveling on an actual holiday to save on airfare.
Ideal holiday destination:
While many travelers use this time to reconnect with family at home over a turkey, others are looking for alternative destinations to the typical holiday celebration.
According to Nastro, Thanksgiving week is the most ideal time to travel abroad.
“You can eat a turkey dinner, then hop on a plane and fly from New York to London for just $393 round trip. Paris is even cheaper. You can fly a full-service airline for $365 round trip,” she says. I did.
