Expedia Group analyzed our own travel data, insights from 25,000 travelers, and the latest industry innovations to ‘uncover’ eight travel trends to watch in 2025. This includes detour destinations, JOMO (Joy of Missing Out) trips, and one-click trips. Help travelers explore and book their next trip on Instagram.

Expedia – Detour Destinations: Next year, travelers will not only visit established destinations, but also add detours. Expedia’s destinations this year are located close to popular attractions, making them perfect for day trips, as well as major tourist attractions. In search of less crowded and lesser-known destinations, 63% of consumers say they are more likely to visit a detour destination on their next trip*.

Expedia – Goods Travel: TikTok inspires travelers to travel for covetable (and shareable) specialty items. From Dubai’s hottest chocolate bars to French butter, Korean skin care products and Japanese candies, travelers are carving out extra space in their carry-on bags for unique treasures and stocking up on goods. Hotels.com – The all-inclusive era: All-inclusive resorts are not just for families who want to sunbathe by the pool. Today’s all-inclusives appeal to Gen Zers looking for stress-free stays and great deals. One-third of Gen Z travelers say their perceptions of all-inclusive hotels have changed for the better, and 42% say all-inclusive resorts are now their preferred hotel type.
The top three reasons Gen Z embraces the all-inclusive era are: minimal stress (41%), ease of booking (39%), and staying at an all-inclusive hotel feels luxurious (38%).

Hotels.com – Hotel Restaurant Renaissance: When booking a hotel, travelers not only reserve a room, but also a dinner reservation. Hotels around the world are opening acclaimed restaurants with Michelin-starred chefs and rotating seasonal menus to woo their guests.
Travelers are looking for great dining experiences in hotels. Positive reviews of hotel restaurants, chefs, and bars increased 40% year over year on Hotels.com. 3 In addition, nearly one-third of travelers say they’re more likely to book a restaurant at a popular hotel if they have room service, and 31% say they have a reserved table at a restaurant. . Set Jet Predictions for 2025: From bingeable streaming shows to reality TV, travelers continue to turn to screens for travel inspiration. This trend has continued to grow since Expedia Group identified set jetting as a travel behavior in 2022. Two-thirds of travelers say movies, streaming services, and TV shows influenced their travel choices, an increase of 16% from last year.
For the second year, Expedia, Hotels.com, and Vrbo have put together the SetJet Forecast to reveal the entertainment-inspired destinations travelers will turn to in 2025.
