Today, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the Department of the Interior (DOI) announced 14 awards totaling approximately $17 million to further support the deployment of durable and environmentally responsible U.S. offshore wind and ocean energy. The project selection was announced. These projects include research into technological advancements to improve the integrity of the mooring systems that keep floating offshore wind energy platforms and marine energy converters in place during deep-sea operations. The project also includes research into reducing or avoiding the noise generated during the installation of fixed-bottom offshore wind energy foundations.
“Our oceans can provide tremendous amounts of clean power to support a resilient energy system for Americans,” said Jeff Maroutian of the Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. said the Principal Assistant Secretary. “By increasing the reliability of offshore wind and ocean energy technologies and ensuring environmentally responsible development, these selected projects can accelerate the deployment of offshore renewable energy.”
