PEORIA (25News Now) – A firefighter was injured and two cats died after a house fire broke out in Peoria Friday night.
Fire crews responded to a two-story home at 2125 North Machin on Friday around 8:30 p.m.
They found heavy smoke and flames coming from the back of the house.
Multiple crews entered the home to extinguish the fire and searched the residence.
They succeeded in rescuing three dogs and one iguana, but two cats were tragically not saved.
One firefighter suffered burns while extinguishing the fire and was taken to OSF Medical Center for treatment, but was later released and is in good spirits, fire officials said.
Investigators were called to the scene to determine the cause, and arson detection dog Rock was used to search for accelerants.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, but no one else was injured.
Damage is estimated at $105,000.
