The Democratic National Committee today launched a six-figure advertising blitz targeting young voters on more than 20 college campuses in battleground states and key battleground states, according to a memo first shared with NBC News.
Their message to Gen Z: Vote early.
The campaign will run ads on buses, bus stops, billboards and posters that say “Freedom is in the Vote” in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. It is scheduled to reach 30 university campuses. Florida, Iowa, New York, Ohio. A call to action on the sign directs Gen Z to IWillVote.com, a website that provides information on how to vote early.
“What I always tell young people is, ‘You are the biggest voters in this country – so imagine the world you want and go vote for it.’ said Democratic National Committee Chairman Jamie Harrison.
This latest move is a direct response to growing concerns that Gen Z is not voting early at the same rate as other generations. According to Gallup, early voting is less common in the 2022 midterm elections than in presidential elections, but only one in three Gen Zers voted early, compared to 1 in 3 Gen Zers who voted early. That’s only about half. With early voting turnout reaching record levels this month in states like Georgia, Democrats are hoping to capitalize on the momentum to encourage young people to vote early.
“We’ve seen young people make a difference with these campaigns,” Harrison said. “You have power. You have the right to vote. Just use it.”
