TROY, Ala. (WTVY) – In the aftermath of Hurricane Milton, people weren’t the only ones affected.
That’s why Troy Animal Rescue Project traveled to South Florida to help shelters that are still recovering.
TARP Director Tiffany Howington made the eight-hour trip to DeSoto County to pick up about 20 cats.
DeSoto is currently under a boil notice, which makes it difficult to care for the many animals housed in shelters in the area.
Howington said this is a testament to the years of construction of local shelters.
“When you have 60 or 70 animals, it’s hard to boil water for everyone every day. Best Friends Animal Society was doing a rescue mission to a shelter in South Florida. We take a lot of dogs and cats to shelters and when something like this happens and they need our help, they reach out and we help them when they need it. “We can do that,” Howington said. .
TARP provides food, shelter, and love to cats in Florida shelters until they recover.
