The holiday season is approaching and for many people that means traveling. If you have pets, it’s time to start thinking about planning for them too. Booking a boarding house involves a lot more than just dropping you off at the door. Before you leave for your vacation, there are a few things you should add to your to-do list.
Schedule your evaluation. This allows the staff to see how your pet will adapt to the new environment and whether your pet will get along with other animals in the facility. If your dog is not spayed or neutered, check the facility’s policies to see if they allow overnight stays. Check your pet’s required vaccinations. This usually includes rabies, distemper, and Bordetella. Boarding requires up-to-date records from a veterinarian. Please confirm return and pick-up times. Some properties require you to pay an additional fee if you miss your designated window. Please provide enough food for your pet’s stay. Some kennels provide their own food, but switching food can cause stomach upset for some pets. Please remember to bring any necessary medicines with you. Some facilities may require that it be placed in its original container with instructions. Please send me some comfortable items. Usually one or two toys or blankets are allowed.
Requirements vary from business to business. Always check with the property to see if pets are allowed before booking.
