TORRINGTON, Conn. (WFSB) – The community of Torrington has come together to build “Across the Rainbow Bridge” for animal lovers.
The concept is that a deceased pet is waiting for its owner on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge. But until then, owners can cross the Rainbow Bridge to visit their pets.
Karen Lakita Bozak came up with the idea to build this bridge. She was inspired by the trails of Lake Lure, North Carolina.
“I met someone here who had lost their dog the day before and the kids were so surprised they brought me here and they just hugged me and kissed me and cried in my arms,” Bozak said. ” he said.
Mr. Bozak recently lost his beloved dog Lily. She built a rainbow bridge to honor her beloved dog.
“I’ve known Karen for a long time and she reached out to me to help build the trail and rainbow bridge,” said Doug Benedetto, Commissioner of Public Safety.
The bridge was completed with the help of the townspeople and Torrington Boy Scout Troop 3.
“A lot of people think it’s just a rainbow bridge, but when you get here you see the path and you see the Footprints Memorial Garden,” Bozak added.
This trail features hundreds of animal photos, toys, and leashes. People from all over the state visit this bridge to seek solace.
“I want people to walk here and feel like they’re visiting their pet,” Benedetto said.
Bozak told her daughter, “Losing Lily is hard for me, but it makes sense now because I have been connected to so many people.”
Over the Rainbow Bridge is located behind the John Toro Sports Complex on Davis Pathway in Torrington.
Commemorative footprints are available for purchase at Detail Unlimited. The funds raised go directly to sustaining the project. Detail Unlimited is located at 99 Winsted Rd. In Torrington.
The original Rainbow Bridge in Lake Lure, North Carolina, was destroyed by Hurricane Helen. Bozak and Benedetto are fundraising to rebuild the bridge. When a fundraiser begins, it will be linked to this page.
