As I scrolled through social media recently, I realized that I was getting very emotional about the simplest and most beautiful things.
Here I was crying watching a video of a complete stranger.
Some children ran into the arms of their grandparents, hugged their nans and pops, spent time with their nonnas and pops, and celebrated what truly was the most wonderful relationship.
I’ve already developed a ton of mom guilt and a shovelful of regrets about my kids not having daily life with their grandparents.

I live a 6 hour drive from my parents. When my husband’s parents were still alive, they lived far away.
Updates with my children and their grandparents are not as frequent as I was lucky enough to have when I lived in the same town as all of my grandparents when I was younger.
My brother and I spent every Friday night at Nanny and Poppy’s house, and hardly a week went by that we didn’t spend time with Grandma.
To this day, those moments remain some of the happiest times of my life.

The love my grandparents gave me was completely unconditional. The advice they gave me may have been exactly the same as the one my mother gave me, but somehow I was more willing to take it.
They were also valuable allies.
They knew my parents’ secrets and stories and provided insight into their past actions. It was sometimes the key ingredient when my teenage brain let me loose.
My own mother and father had done the same, if worse. It’s great to know when the results will be available!

What celebrity grandchildren call their grandparents
The girls recently spent a week with my parents. My parents stopped by, as they often did during school holidays when my husband and I had to work.
And beyond the logistical support provided, I was so grateful that the children were able to spend time with their grandparents and create wonderful memories of their own.
Grandpa and grandma are truly the best!
