Weak sales forecasts and Adidas’ constant innovation put Nike at a disadvantage. While they rely too much on the success of the Air Force 1, Adidas’ low-rise, multicolored Samba and Gazelle sneakers are all the rage right now. Does that signal a bleak future for Nike footwear? We hope that doesn’t happen and that Nike bounces back with successful shoes like Air Jordan.
The company may also consider expanding into the highly competitive and highly profitable audio accessories market. If Nike decides to expand its influence beyond sports apparel and footwear, that could be the case. Featuring Nike branding, the earbuds’ concept design gives active people a fair idea of what it would be like to exist.
Designer: Han Jinkyo
Created for Nike, these concept earbuds have a sporty, comfortable fit and a secure design that stays in place during intense physical activity. The minimal design makes it lightweight and easy to use. This means it will be loved by people with active lifestyles. Due to their small size, don’t expect drivers to rival flagship earphones like the B&W Pi8, Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4, Technics AZ 80, and Denon Pearl Pro.
It has a very concave shape that flows into the case with a unique top with a sporty finish. In a way, it mimics the sole of a shoe, which fits the theme well. Similar to the buds in Nothing Ear (2), the buds are arranged horizontally within the case, but the face is in the first position, making them difficult to remove.
The Nike branding is very aggressively emblazoned on the side, and we hope it has touch controls there, since touch controls are the norm these days, even with budget options. Jinkyo hasn’t asked for any specs or features on this, but I think there should be options for ANC and transparency as well. Overall, this concept is very much reflected in the design and appearance, but a little more imagination in the features and functionality of the buds could have spiced it up even more.
