New data suggests average holiday airfares will drop significantly over the coming weeks, with travelers finally taking a breather after years of inflation and max-booked flights.
“Thanksgiving prices are down 6% this year, and December holiday prices are down 9%,” Kayak’s number crunchers announced.

Travel website researchers said interest in domestic flights has reached its lowest level in three years. The average fare for Thanksgiving in 2024 is $439.
The most popular destinations for this Turkey Day are Orlando, San Juan, Honolulu, and Miami.
The report also noted that Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO) are expected to be the nation’s busiest airports during the holiday season.
This time around, international travel is the biggest motivator, with a whopping 71% of flight interest over the Christmas period concentrated in three locations: Cancun, Tokyo and London.
And when it comes to Thanksgiving travel, those heading to the Twin Cities’ hometown can expect big savings. Fares to Minneapolis average just $337, even during peak seasons.

Around Christmas, Hanukkah, and New Year’s Eve, Minneapolis wins again, with an average fare of $362.
International destinations still reachable during peak times later this year include the Bahamas with an average fare of $633, Mexico City at $688, Tulum, Mexico at $712, Reykjavik, Iceland at $715, and Mexico at $784. Including Cancun.
Google Flights also recently reported strong interest in international travel during the holiday season. Cancun, Tokyo, London, and Paris are all in the top 10 most searched spots for Thanksgiving travel.
