2024 has been a long season for Taylor Fritz, but he’s on track to reach the Shanghai Masters semifinals.
The American defeated David Goffin in straight sets on Friday morning to reach the final four of the Masters 1000 tournament for the fifth time in his career.
Fritz becomes the second American player to reach the Shanghai Masters semifinals, following Sebastian Korda in 2023.
The world No. 7 has been strong throughout the tournament and is yet to drop a set in Shanghai.
What does Taylor Fritz say about his fitness level?
Taylor Fritz was impressive with her serve, winning 70% of her second serve points in a 6-4, 6-3 win over Goffin. The 26-year-old converted three of seven break points to secure victory in one hour and 22 minutes.
Fritz will be playing a lot of tennis in 2024 and could be forgiven for feeling a little fatigued in the final part of the campaign.
However, the US Open runner-up is happy with his fitness and conditioning after defeating Goffin and is aiming for his second Masters 1000 title.
“All things considered, I actually feel pretty good! At this time of year, it’s important to remember that it’s been a long season,” Fritz said on court after the win.
“I think everyone has something going on and something is bothering them. It hurts here and there, but we’re going to hang in there until the end!”
