DENVER — Sunday is expected to be the second busiest day of the year at Denver International Airport, according to airport officials.
The travel rush coincides with fall holidays across the country and the Great American Beer Festival in Denver.
An estimated 89,667 passengers are expected to pass through TSA on Sunday, according to the DIA.
“I’m glad I found out after the fact. It could have added to my anxiety about traveling,” said DIA passenger Michael Ott.
The entire trip period is from October 10th to October 20th, and the number of passengers is expected to be 843,800. The busiest days are expected to be October 10th, 11th, 13th, and 20th.
“More than 338,600 passengers are expected to pass through security recently, an increase of 7.4% compared to the same period in 2023,” airport officials said.
For comparison, the busiest day at the airport so far this year was July 7, 2024, when 98,591 passengers were screened, according to DIA.
Airport staff are scattered around the checkpoint to assist passengers.
“I like that it has the ability to say, ‘Can I help you?’” I’m sitting here. It’s very convenient and helpful,” said Janice Allen, who is returning home after a trip to Estes Park.
Passengers are advised to arrive at the airport at least two hours before their boarding time to avoid missing their flight or having to scramble at the last minute.
