High pressure will remain anchored over the eastern United States starting Sunday and continuing through much of next week, with clear skies and comfortable temperatures expected.
Tap Sunday also has a great day. Spotted fog will develop and temperatures will reach the mid-40s at sunrise, before rising to the mid-70s inland and into the low 60s along the coast under mostly sunny skies. Northeasterly winds will keep the coastline calm, raising sea levels and making boating dangerous. A small craft advisory is in effect, with wave heights expected to be in the 5-10 foot range, especially north of Ocracoke.
Minor coastal flooding is a concern due to sustained northeasterly winds and continued king tides. Areas along Hatteras Island are most at risk, with vulnerable locations already reporting ocean flooding. A high surf advisory remains in effect, with dangerous waves expected for the northern Outer Banks.
The outlook is for dry, quiet weather to continue into the middle of the week as high pressure continues to prevail. A dry cold front is expected to move through Thursday, bringing cooler air but little rain. High temperatures will return to near normal by late October, with temperatures hovering in the mid 60s to low 70s.
