The Student Government Association’s Budget and Allocations Committee and University and Student Affairs Committee met on Friday, Oct. 4, to approve travel and special requests and consider the September Osprey Voice Survey.
Due to the lack of new business, the Rules Oversight Committee was not held.
B&A committee meeting
The B&A Committee approved travel requests for 15 UNF Percussion Club students to attend the PASIC conference in Indianapolis, Indiana from November 13th to November 17th.
The UNF Percussion Club requested $2,000 for travel expenses. Committee members voted unanimously to award funding to the group. According to B&A’s meeting minutes, the travel request index is currently $41,000.
UNF SG Senate Sergeant at Arms, Sen. Liz Kramer, amended the meeting agenda to include a special request from the Swoop Theater Company Drama Club. The group asked for $2,937.35 to store that year’s supplies in the Town Center Storage Unit.
Mr. Kramer advised Swoop Theater Company to fund the storage unit without SG funding in the future so that more funds could be “given back to students.”
Members of the B&A Committee who voted passed the bill unanimously on a 4-0 vote. Three committee members were absent from the meeting.
According to B&A Committee minutes, the bill’s passage brought the special requests index to $82,065.65.
University/Student Committee Meeting
During the U.S. committee meeting, members discussed the results of the September Osprey Voice survey, which found that most students wanted improved parking on campus.
Approximately 75% of students said parking was the most important issue on campus, according to U.S. Committee Chair Benia Cadet.
Of the 308 students who completed the survey, 208 lived off campus and 100 lived on campus. Since most students are off-campus, Cadet suspects most students have issues with on-campus parking.
Cadet said UNF SG Chief Justice Ali Sartawi is working on proposals to improve parking based on data from the Osprey Voice survey.
In addition to parking, students said housing, food and student participation are also concerns.
Next up: Senate and committee meetings.
