Yogesh Jogthan, head of the university’s psychology department, and colleague Dhara Doshi conducted a study of 1,120 children between the ages of 8 and 14 in Rajkot and Jamnagar, 620 girls and 500 boys. A survey was conducted. The study revealed that 22% of children were surveyed. They were clearly sexually mature before their age. The researchers also interacted with 720 parents as part of the study.
The study found that factors that contribute to earlier sexual maturation include consumption of processed foods, sleep deprivation, excessive internet and mobile use, parental overindulgence, lack of a joint family environment, television, and high parental ambition. He points out several factors.
“In our interactions, we have found that children reach sexual maturity before their physical age. This creates issues such as covert porn consumption and sexual topics. This can lead to sexual offenses such as threatening to distribute offensive images on social media or cyber, or threatening to commit bullying and sexual assault,” Jogsan said.
He added: “The purpose of this study is to show red lines to parents who can help their children out of this situation.”
The researchers selected their subjects based on discussions with teachers, including children who displayed aggressive behavior in the classroom, got into fights, bullied others, or had psychological problems that teachers deemed abnormal. focused on us.
“When we asked them details about their daily routines, time with parents, grandparents, and other family members, cell time, TV time, and eating habits, we found that those who matured earlier had less interaction with their parents. , lived in a nuclear family and had a lot of screen time,” Doshi said.
The study also revealed that 51% of children feel psychological pressure due to their parents’ high expectations for success in various fields such as studies, sports, dance and other competitions. Furthermore, 63% of parents believed that providing their children with material comforts was the best way to raise them.
