NEVADA, Mo. — A local house of worship has reached a milestone, and while it may look the same on the outside, it’s undergone some surprising changes on the inside.
The exterior of St. Mary’s Catholic Church hasn’t changed much in the 125 years since it was built in Nevada. A testament to the quality of construction from 1899.
Inside, that’s another story.
“You can imagine walking into a church that is colored now,” said Father Pete Savidge, pastor of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Ecclesiastical Studios and Sons employees spent 10 weeks transforming the beautiful church into a stunning church.
“I was just amazed. It looked completely different. I was so happy to see all the cracks and water damage being repaired. It was amazing,” said Virginia Habjan, a longtime member of the parish. said.
“Everyone was kind of surprised. This is not the place we remember. It was kind of a shock for a lot of people when they actually saw it and saw what it actually turned out to be.” said Father Savidge.
Aside from repairing damage to leaking roofs, the team, which has worked on Catholic churches in four other states for years, hauled the buildings inside, cleaned them, repainted them and left them unnoticed for decades. Revealed the details.
