Indie developer Niklas Tomkowitz has announced Small Spaces, a relaxing game where players transform small apartments into beautifully designed dioramas. From modern apartments in Tokyo to Victorian townhouses in San Francisco, players can sit back, brainstorm ideas, and create their own cozy worlds in a fun and easy way. The only limitation is the space itself.
If The Sims was all about apartment design and House Flipper took away the cleaning, you might have Small Spaces, a cozy interior design game without budgets or big challenges. Small Spaces allows players to relax by decorating their spaces and get inspired to easily create unique designs.
Developed with Unreal Engine, Small Spaces makes any apartment sparkle with gorgeous sunrises and peaceful nights. Hundreds of realistic furniture items and materials offer endless possibilities for designing your space. Players use simple tools to create a custom kitchen, add indirect lighting, and decide where to place their favorite plants.
Due to the limited size of the apartment, space itself turns into a resource, encouraging players to come up with unique and creative solutions. It’s like making the most of a small space by designing a multifunctional layout with sliding doors, curtains, stairs, etc.
Story mode is an easy way to get started and come up with ideas. Players start with empty apartments themed around cities around the world and unlock new furniture to decorate as the game progresses. Additionally, each space has its own unique story of the people who live there. For example, players will be tasked with designing a cozy house for a family with two children or a small university dormitory, and will have to come up with beautiful and practical designs.
For players who don’t want an objective and prefer creative freedom, Sandbox mode offers a design without limits, rules, or requirements. Players can start by creating a floor plan and create their own story about who will live there.

Niklas is an independent game developer based in Berlin, Germany. After studying game design at the Cologne Game Lab and taking a detour as co-leader of a product design agency, inspired by a passion for design and immersing players in atmospheric environments, he is now working on his first release, Small Spaces. I’m working on it.
