A group of over 200 Shuswap women continues to progress through fitness and friendship.
Now in its 35th year, Shuswap Lady Striders (SLS) continues to grow its membership and the number of outdoor activities its members enjoy.
SLS was founded by Joss Penner and Maro Hartling with a group of passionate women who wanted to train for the Kelowna Fresh Experience 5K and 10K runs.
A Shuswap Lady Striders (SLS) media release states, “In 1989, the running group expanded to include a walking group, and today we have grown from approximately 30 members to more than 200 members.” I am. SLS embers can participate in weekly activities ranging from summer hiking, walking, biking, and jogging to winter walking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing.
Many activities have levels so everyone can participate, have fun and be challenged. ”
The group also hosts monthly breakfast meetings that rotate between local restaurants (the next one is on November 7th), a Christmas luncheon, and two potluck evenings, which “always feature the best that participants bring.” We offer a wide variety of delicious food.” ”
Strider also supports local initiatives, such as helping provide food and hot chocolate to the annual Pirate Loppet for District 83 Elementary School in Larch Hills. There’s also Travel Night, where striders share their adventures in a slide show.
Membership fee is $20 per year. Other perks for club membership include next year’s discounts at local businesses such as Skookum Cycle, Eco Treats, Tony O’s Outfitters, Kintec Salmon Arm, Wearabouts, Salmon Arm, Lakeside Health, Pink Cherry, Meadow Brae, and Samson Cleaning Supply Contains. “Supporting these wonderful local businesses is a great bonus for club members and we are very grateful for it,” SLS said.
