Promotion: A pet-friendly office and wood-burning restaurant interior is one of five winning projects in this year’s Shaw Contract Design Awards.
Winners of the 19th annual awards program, sponsored by flooring manufacturer Shaw Contract, include entries from around the world, from a minimalist workplace in China to a nature-inspired apartment complex in Canada.

The Shaw Contract Design Awards program is held annually to “celebrate the optimism of design and its ability to positively impact communities and the planet.”
We focus specifically on interiors that utilize Shaw Contract products and services, and that the brand believes embodies its unique ethos and focus on sustainability.
The other is a pet-friendly office in the United States.
“These projects represent the pinnacle of regional design excellence and align with the Shaw Contract’s four core People Together Planet Forever ambitions: material health, circular economy, carbon impact, diversity, Consistent with equity and inclusion,” Shaw Contract said.
“These standards reflect our commitment to creating spaces that are not only beautiful and functional, but also sustainable and inclusive.”
Praised by Shaw Contracting for its “unique pet-first amenity.”
This year’s top projects were each awarded an award called “Best of Globe Winner.” These were chosen from around 700 entries from 36 countries, which were narrowed down to a shortlist of 43, each of which was selected as a regional winner.
The first winning project was a workspace for American pet food company Hill’s Pet Nutrition, designed by Perspective Architecture + Design to allow employees to have fun with their furry friends.
“Unique pet-first amenities” such as an indoor dog park and snack station, as well as workspaces designed to accommodate the different ways employees work, were praised by Show Contracts.
The firm also participated in the Shaw Contract Reclamation Program, which removed the building’s existing carpeting and sent it to the company for recycling.
A minimalist office in China was also an award winner.
Next up is Canadian law firm Stichman Elliott’s Kassian Architecture workplace in Calgary, designed to encourage employees to return to the office after the pandemic.
Shaw Contract was praised not only for its “focus on sophistication” but also for its use of durable finishes, which reflect a desire to embrace circular economy principles. This includes the use of the brand’s flooring range, which includes carpet tiles.
Another winning project in Canada is Upper West Side Condos, a 14-storey residential building designed by II By IV Design.
Shaw Contract said the approach was chosen to blend “nature and modern luxury” and the use of the brand’s mist carpet, “reminiscent of a country lane on a rainy day”.
Show Contract also approved condominiums on Canada’s Upper West Side
Bar Kar is Spacemen’s small wood-burning restaurant in Malaysia, known for its cave-like interior in warm terracotta tones and wood, metal and stone details.
In particular, the brand liked the firewood-lined hallway that chefs use to store firewood for cooking in the kitchen.
“We turned local natural materials into building materials that can be replenished and reused at any time,” Shaw Contract said.
Another Canadian winner was the workplace of law firm Stikman Elliott
The final project was the interior of a small Chinese workplace by Guangzhou Jemme Home Design, chosen for its clean minimalist design.
Guangzhou Jemme Home Design was praised for its use of “eco-friendly” materials, which Shaw Contract said also included carpet products.
Best of Globe winners will receive a handmade trophy by Singaporean crochet artist Kelly Limerick, as well as a $2,000 (£1,497) donation in their name to an organization of their choice.
