This spring, the city’s first five-star hotel opened in the 460-foot Crystal Tower in Portland, Oregon’s Pearl Arts District. Conceived by GBD Architects, the building is home to Portland’s new Ritz-Carlton Hotel & Residences, with interiors commissioned by ROAM Interior Design. ROAM, formerly known as HKS Hospitality, is a 251-room hotel with 207 rooms and 44 suites, a luxurious ode to the Oregon forest. The hotel’s bar and lounge Meadowrue takes this design cue in a more mysterious direction.
Meadoloo begins with a grand staircase, followed by irregular steps that wind past moss-covered basalt waterfalls on nearby Mount Hood. When you go up the stairs, you will find a stylish bar inspired by nature. Beneath a vertical crystal, lighting and green canopy, the bar features reclaimed Oregon tree trunks, live-edge tables and shimmering green panels. The various vertical elements disappearing into the sparkling cove overhead are meant to remind you of traversing the forest among the large trees.
