FORTVILLE – Each year, Hancock Health hosts a resource fair called Rise Above It, providing a place to learn about mental health, wellness and self-care.
This year’s event, scheduled to be held at Mount Vernon High School on Nov. 12 from 5 to 8:30 p.m., will be bigger than ever, organizers said.
This free event will include information sessions, vendors, and several self-care stations including massages, weighted blanket demonstrations, Zumba, and more. Dinner and childcare services are available to those who apply in advance.
This year’s Rise Above It features breakout sessions offered by the Mount Vernon Educational Foundation through its Parent University Program.
Amanda Hinkle, local system coordinator for Hancock Health, said officials from both the foundation and Hancock Health chose to combine the two programs this year.
“These two events took place around the same time and our goals aligned, so we decided to combine them to make them bigger, better and reach more people,” Hinkle said. said.
A free resource fair called Rise Above It, sponsored by Hancock Health, will be held Nov. 12 at Mount Vernon High School. This year’s fair will feature parenting classes offered by the Mount Vernon Educational Foundation through its Parent University Program.
The theme of the program is “It Starts With You – A Mindful Experience” and focuses on mental health, positive parenting, and self-care.
“We want people to know that support is around them and we want them to feel that support,” Hinkle said.
Visitors will have the opportunity to eat a family-style dinner in the school cafeteria from 6:00 to 6:45 p.m., but will also have the opportunity to use the library’s free child care to attend adults-only breakout sessions held throughout the evening. You can also use
Vendors will also be offering a wealth of mental health and wellness resources from agencies in and around Hancock County from 5 to 7 p.m.
Guests can also speak with a Connection Center Support Navigator through Hancock Health to connect them to local programs and services.
Hinkle said numerous stations will be installed in the cafeteria to promote the importance of self-care.
The Relaxation Station offers chair massages and facials provided by Hancock Wellness Center and Focused Touch Day Spa, while the Beauty Station offers haircuts, styling and nail painting provided by New Castle Career Center and Step Ahead Beauty Salon. Masu.
The Stress Relief and Regulation Station lets visitors try a variety of stress relief techniques, including interactive art, fidgeting and weighted blankets, while the Move and Groove Station shows how Zumba reduces stress and lifts your mood. I’ll show you what you can do.
Bentley’s Buddies, a local nonprofit organization that uses canine companions to improve children’s reading comprehension, will also be in attendance with several four-legged friends.
Other demonstrations include Narcan training that teaches how to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose and administer opioid reversal medication, and participants learn about what teens in abusive relationships experience. This includes domestic violence simulations where you can see first-hand what is going on. This simulation creates an opportunity to talk about dating violence and healthy relationships.
Parents will also have the opportunity to attend an education breakout session and hear from keynote speaker Jesse Hyde, a training specialist with Hope Alight, which works to bring hope and healing to children who have experienced adversity.
Ms. Hyde will lead sessions on authoritative parenting that focus on maintaining boundaries with children while maintaining healthy connections with them. According to the event brochure, the sessions will provide parents with the tools to foster empathy in their children through healthy connections with their parents, while helping children grow into their healthiest, most productive versions of themselves. Parents can also attend breakout sessions at events such as: Develop strong values in the children of the room. and Infusing Joy, which focuses on creating engaging and memorable school experiences.
The event will also feature two interpretive dance performances, including one by Arc of Hancock County’s adaptive ballet class.
Ann Point Indiana Ballet will also perform a dance called “Jekyll and Hyde,” which touches on the struggles one can experience with mental health and substance abuse disorders and the feeling that illness can take over one’s life. It’s planned.
