Indian apparel company Raymond Lifestyle plans to hire around 9,000 people over the next three years as it expands by hundreds of new stores, group chairman Gautam Singhania told news agency Reuters. Singhania said on Monday that the apparel company aims to hire an average of 10 employees per store for the 900 new stores it plans to open. He declined to disclose the size of the company’s current workforce across its approximately 1,500 existing stores.
Additionally, Raymond Lifestyle plans to hire people to fill various roles within the factory as it looks to expand its sewing capabilities, but Singhania did not provide further details. The move comes as Bangladesh, a major apparel manufacturing hub, faces political instability and flooding.
The company, which serves prominent apparel chains such as J.C. Penney and Macy’s, said it has seen a surge in inquiries from customers around the world as more brands seek to relocate operations to India to meet their needs. Singhania pointed out.
The company’s clothing division, which exports to the US, Europe and Japan, reported sales of 1,139 million rupees ($135.5 million) last year, contributing more than 10% to the group’s overall revenue.
Separately, Singhania said Raymond Lifestyle, known for its men’s suits, is exploring opportunities in India’s rapidly growing fast fashion sector. He pointed out that Zudio, owned by the Tata Group, has been particularly successful in this market.
