UNIVERSITY PARK — The Penn State Nittany Lion field hockey team (8-7 B1G, 2-4) heads to Piscataway, New Jersey for a Big Ten road game at Rutgers. The Nittany Lions will face the Scarlet Knights on Friday, October 25th at 2 p.m.
The Nittany Lions finished off a split weekend at home, dropping one game to No. 7 Michigan before coming back to score a 2-1 overtime victory over Michigan State. Julienne van Beckham and Ella Jennes scored for Penn State against the Spartans on Sunday.
Fear Gladue leads Penn State with 42 points on 19 goals and four assists. Van Beckum had 11 of his 3 goals and a team-high 5 assists, while Jenne had 6 of his 2 goals and 2 assists. Freshman keeper Abby DeVerka has 68 saves on the year, and senior Lauren Delgado has nine saves for a 4-0 record.
Rutgers enters the weekend with a record of 6-7 and 3-4 in the Big Ten. The Scarlet Knights defeated Michigan State 2-0 at home last weekend and beat Ohio State 1-0 on Sunday for two wins. Penn State holds a 20-9-3 lead in the all-time series between the two schools.
Penn State concludes the regular season next Friday with a home game against Maryland on Nov. 1. The Nittany Lions and Terrapins will face off at Char Moret Curtis Field at 4 p.m.

On Sunday, October 14, Fear Gladue set a new Penn State career points record with two goals in Penn State’s 5-0 road win at Ohio University. Penn State Downs Indiana 3-2 in B1G opener
Penn State visited Indiana in the Nittany Lions’ conference opener on Friday, September 27th, winning 3-2. Natalie Freeman and Fia Gladue scored in the first half, giving Penn State a 2-1 lead at halftime. Drew Taylor scored in the third quarter, which was the difference in a 3-2 victory.

Penn State held homestand Bucknell 1-0 in the fourth quarter on Sept. 22 in Lewisburg. Senior Fear Gladue continued to dominate the competition, scoring 10 points in two games as the Nittany Lions won two games over the weekend. Gladue has scored in all six of Penn State’s games. Gladue had two goals and one assist in Penn State’s 4-1 win over Kent State on Friday. Two days later, Penn State hosted No. 15 Princeton at the Penn State Field Hockey Complex, and Gladue again scored five points. She scored Penn State’s first two goals, both without an assist, pushing PSU closer to the Tigers. On September 13, Penn State won 4-1 against Kent State, with Fear Gladue recording two goals and one assist. Senior keeper Lauren Delgado made two saves to give the Lions their first win inside the cage. Scoring goals for Gladue were senior Sophia Mannino and junior Ella Jennes.

Fear Gladue scored three points, including the game-winning goal late in the game, and true freshman Caitlin Strother and graduate student Julien van Beckham each scored their first goals as Nittany Lions, leading Penn State to five points against Delaware State. He led them to a 4-4 victory.
Gladue has two goals and Deverka has 14 saves to finish in the top 10 on opening weekend.
Senior Fia Gladue scored a goal in each of Penn State’s weekend openers, and true freshman Abby DeVerka totaled 14 saves against two ACC top-10 schools. In Penn State’s 2-1 loss to No. 3 Virginia in the season opener on Friday, Aug. 30, Gladue scored a goal (assisted by Julienne van Beckham) and DeVerka made 11 saves. True freshman Abby DeBarca made 14 saves on Penn State’s opening weekend in her first collegiate games against No. 3 Virginia and No. 10 Syracuse. Deverka opened the season with 11 saves against the No. 3 Cavaliers and three saves against No. 10 Syracuse, and was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week (September 3, 2024).
Senior trio named 2024 team captains
The Penn State Nittany Lion field hockey team selected seniors Fia Gladue, Julia Lamb and Drew Taylor as team captains during the second week of preseason practice. This will be the first time that each Nittany Lions player will be voted captain by his teammates.
