After last month’s PS5 system update, players noticed that the console’s “Resume Activity” feature was gone. We reported this at the time, but we weren’t sure if this feature was removed intentionally or if it was a bug. However, changes included in today’s update make it appear that Sony intended to remove this feature.
PS5 update changes how Activities work, but there’s no option to “Resume Activities”
Update 24.07-10.20.00 is a relatively small patch whose main purpose is to improve activity. I’ve seen quite a few players ask if this update “fixed” someone’s ability to resume activities. When I started the console, I noticed that the language of the activity card had changed and there was no longer an option to “resume” the activity. Sony changed the wording on the card to read “Play Game.”
Previously, players could jump directly to relevant parts of the game via activity cards. Currently, only a cold boot to the main menu is possible. I wanted to make sure I wasn’t the only one experiencing this problem, so I took the time to look into it. The folks at Reddit and ResetEra have confirmed this change, and YouTuber Mystic has published a very informative video that confirms my suspicions.
While Activity Resume wasn’t the most popular feature on PS5, it was useful and used enough by players that several online communities started discussing it. Sony hasn’t said anything about this, but the latest update pretty much confirms that this feature has been intentionally, and probably permanently, discontinued.
We believe this change was made due to lack of support.
