Priyanka Chopra was just beginning her career in the Hindi film industry when she met director Sunil Darshan for a role in his film ‘Andaz’. In a recent interaction, Sunil revealed that when he first saw Priyanka, he was initially “shocked” as she did not fit the conventional beauty standards. However, her confidence and seductive voice convinced him to cast her as Anders.
On his YouTube channel, Sunil recalled: I was already thinking of casting Akshay Kumar and Lara Dutta in the lead roles. After finishing it, I was looking for someone to play a slightly smaller role than Lara. Many girls auditioned and one day my secretary brought Priyanka to meet me. When I first saw her, I was shocked because she wasn’t your typical beauty. We talked for about 15 minutes. Her voice was very zabardast (powerful) and her eyes were very katarnak (dangerous). I decided to cast her within those 15 minutes and told her that one day she would be as tall as Rekha. ”
‘Andaz’ is Priyanka’s second Hindi film, which was released in 2003 after her debut in Sunny Deol’s ‘Hero: A Spy’s Love Story’. Andaz also created a successful on-screen pairing of Akshay and Priyanka, which lasted for four films.
