The interfaith animal blessing took place on Sunday evening, October 20th, at the Granada Street boat ramp next to Rosie’s Dog Beach.
Organizers say the annual event is a time for families and people of all ages and backgrounds to bring their beloved pets to celebrate them and pray about the interconnectedness of all living things. More than 300 pets and their owners were expected to attend this year’s blessing.
The event also welcomed participants who brought collars and photos of their deceased pets to be blessed.
Long Beach organizer Justin Ladd and the nonprofit Community Action Team host the interfaith blessing each year.
“It’s important to recognize and respect the wonderful bond and relationship between pets and their people,” Rudd says on his website.
At Sunday’s interfaith blessing, pastors, priests, ministers and rabbis blessed a number of pets, primarily dogs, but also birds, cats and other animals.
