SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WBAY) – Many of the pets affected by Hurricane Helen in Tennessee have been airlifted to new shelters in Wisconsin and Michigan for a second chance to find new homes. More than a dozen dogs landed in Sheboygan County Thursday and were adopted by a local humane organization.
The 13 dogs that arrived in Sheboygan Thursday afternoon came all the way from Tennessee in hopes of finding new homes.
“I’m holding back tears a little bit because they’ve been through so much,” said Darin Summers, community outreach coordinator for the Sheboygan County Humane Society. We are deeply moved by the efforts we have made to ensure a comfortable stay. I just want to hug them. ”
The Bissell Pet Foundation helps transport these dogs to places like the Sheboygan County Humane Society and create space in shelters.
“When we had an opportunity to help in a situation like this, it was an all-hands-on-deck situation,” said David Diaz, Sheboygan County Humane Society Executive Director.
This is so pets displaced by the hurricane can be adopted. Provide relief to affected facilities rather than a harder path.
“The reality is that there will be euthanasia. At the end of the day, that’s what it really means,” Diaz continued. “That’s why it’s so close to what we do and our mission, because like I said, we’re no-kill. So it’s really aligned with what we’re aiming for across the board. We are doing so.”
Starting Wednesday, Oct. 16, check out the Sheboygan County Humane Society’s social media and website to see if anything applies to you.
“Why not look online and meet them first, because the animals you see in our kennels are not necessarily the same as their actual personalities. Because they’re nervous and worried, but as soon as they step outside you can see them light up,” Summers said.
