The Sheriff’s Office highlighted one particular rescue in which Captain Dusty Mascaro carried a puppy to safety several feet deep.
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — Amidst the devastation caused by Hurricane Milton, there’s still room for heartwarming stories.
Rescuers rescued more than 100 pets from flooding in Hillsborough County.
Hillsborough County Fire Rescue announced on its Facebook page that its crews have rescued 104 pets in the past two days.
“We are extremely grateful for the opportunity to serve and protect all members of our community, both large and small,” the organization said in a post.
They focused on one particular rescue in which Captain Dusty Mascaro carried a pup to safety in several feet of water.

They also posted images of what appears to be a converted school bus, operating as a makeshift dog kennel housing dozens of furry friends.
New or continuing flood warnings are in effect for several areas around the region, including Hillsborough County. Several shelters in the area allow pets.
