MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — Halloween is coming up this week and we all want to get in on the festivities. That may include pet costumes.
However, there are important safety tips when dressing up this spooky season.
First, make sure the costume is comfortable and does not restrict your pet’s movement. They must be able to walk, bark, see, and hear comfortably. Especially if you’re walking somewhere you don’t know.
Make sure the costume is made of non-toxic materials. Since there are many cheap costumes on the market, it is important to note that low-quality materials can irritate your pet’s skin.
Additionally, avoid small accessories that can pose a choking hazard, such as dangling accessories such as sequin beads or necklaces, and finally limit the use of masks and shoes. If your pet is used to wearing shoes, there’s no need to worry, but don’t let your pet wear shoes for the first time, as they’ll be walking a lot more than usual on Halloween.
If a physical costume isn’t an option, another popular Halloween trend is painting them with pet-friendly paint. The best are milk-based, non-toxic paints made from natural ingredients. Therefore, it is free of VOCs and volatile organic compounds.
If your pet shows signs of stress when removing their Halloween costume, don’t force them to remove it. There are other alternatives, such as wearing a festive bandana, collar, or small bow tie.
