You have been warned that there is. Authorities say scammers use social media sites to find local residents who have lost pets, offering to return them in exchange for money. The Palm Beach County Department of Public Safety Animal Care and Control Division (PBCACC) would like to inform the community that scammers have recently been targeting owners of lost pets. Concerned community members who have posted their contact information on one of several lost pet websites (links below) have received phone calls and text messages from individuals claiming to be ACC employees.

Callers are reporting that the lost animals are injured and their owners need to send money immediately to address urgent medical needs to save their pets’ lives. .
PBCACC will not ask for money via phone calls or text messages to retrieve animals and will continue to treat injured animals while tracking owners. If you receive a suspicious call, please report it to law enforcement and the agency where the lost pet is registered. Never send money to anyone who calls about a lost pet.
