KARACHI: A Pakistani man killed four women in his family, including his mother and sister, citing their “liberal” lifestyle and social media use, police said here on Monday. Bilal Ahmed was arrested on Saturday, appeared in court on Monday, and was remanded in police custody.
During the hearing, Mr Ahmed told the court that he slit the throats of his mother, sister, niece and sister-in-law because their “liberal” lifestyle was damaging their marriage and because they were always nagging them. He said that.
“This is a clear case that Bilal was mentally unstable and ultra-conservative,” said investigator Shaukat Awan.
The bodies of four women with their throats slit were found in an apartment in the old Soldier Bazaar area of Karachi on Saturday.
“During the investigation, Bilal blamed the women and their ‘liberal’ lifestyle for fighting with them daily and for leaving him because his wife was religious. It has become clear that this has happened,” Awan said.
He said Bilal was angry about the four women’s use of social media. He was also angry at his sister and niece, who posted photos and videos of themselves on their social media accounts.
Bilal told police that he initially “wanted to teach my sister a lesson” but later realized he could leave no witnesses and killed all four women.
