WASHINGTON (CBS, KYMA/KECY) – Rep. Mike Turner (R-Ohio) appeared with Margaret Brennan on Sunday’s Face the Nation and spoke about violent political rhetoric.
Former President Donald Trump held a rally Saturday in Butler, Pennsylvania, the city where he was nearly assassinated nearly three months ago. The first person to appear with him on the campaign trail was billionaire Elon Musk.
As before, Mr. Vance asserted without evidence that it was Democratic rhetoric that led to Mr. Butler’s assassination attempt and the apparent September 15 assassination attempt in West Palm Beach, Florida. “It was just a problem,” he said. That’s before someone tries to kill him. ”
Asked if Trump and Vance’s words were “useless,” Turner said:
“I think this certainly characterizes the reality that Donald Trump has had two attempts at life. And I certainly think both the administration and Vice President Harris have a job to do. “I think the administration has come out in public,” Justice Department official Matt Olsen told CBS News, saying there was an active and continuing threat from Iran to kill Donald Trump. He acknowledged there had been no statement from the government to Iran about what impact it would have. It would be an act of war, and Vice President Harris has not issued a statement condemning it or even acknowledging that there is an active foreign plan to kill our opponents. I think she definitely has a role to play. I think the president’s involvement in this, recognizing that there is a threat to Donald Trump and needing to respond to deter it, certainly needs to de-escalate tensions on their terms. . ”
During the interview, Brennan and Turner spoke about the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. One year after the Oct. 7 attack, when Mr. Brennan asked Mr. Turner what he thought of Israel’s intelligence services, Mr. Turner at the time called it a “major failure of intelligence on the Israeli side.”
“The United States is working with Israel in a way that it wasn’t necessarily working with before October 7th, and I think Israel has changed its focus in gathering intelligence and evaluating intelligence. So they’re certainly It’s an opportunity to understand that they are in an active conflict and are looking for ways to degrade their adversary’s capabilities. ”
