Nottingham quartet Do Nothing have released new single ‘Summer of Hate’, a standalone track that marks the start of their next chapter, following their 2023 debut album ‘Snake Sideways’.
Spotlighting frontman Chris Bailey’s unique vocals and surrealist lyricism, the band’s latest number sees them move away from the overall angst of the LP to more upbeat thematic landscapes (albeit (Although it is a reflection on childhood bullies and crying over dinosaurs).
Recorded by Knotts’ own JT Soar with Folly Group’s Louis Milburn, the song was described by Chris as “a fun song that’s perfect for summer, even though it was released now, long after a terrible summer”. There is. Continuing, he explains: “I wanted to put it out now because I liked it, but I wasn’t sure where it belonged with the rest of the new songs. It’s kind of about bullying and rejection, and how that doesn’t necessarily go away when you grow up. It’s a story about not being there. We tried to have fun and not stress, and it was easy because we were at home with friends in the sunshine.”
