Falling in love with your pet at first sight: Study
Forget about love at first sight for your significant other. How do you feel when you make eye contact with your pet for the first time? A new study by FOX 5 NY’s Jessica Formoso reveals that we may have stronger initial bonds with our pets than with humans.
NEW YORK – A new bill introduced in the New York City Council would expand the city’s paid sick leave law to include care for certain animals and pets.
The bill, sponsored by Democratic Rep. Sean Abreu, who represents Manhattan’s 7th District, would amend paid sick leave laws to allow employees to use sick time for pet-related medical care. This includes medical diagnosis, treatment of physical illness or injury, and any situation where preventive care is required for your pet.
Under current law, workers can use sick leave for their own health needs, to care for a sick family member, or in the event of a public health emergency.
New fines proposed for abandoned pets
The New York City Parks Department has announced several new proposals to punish people who abandon animals in city parks.
For pet owners, animals are considered part of the family. Interacting with a pet is thought to lower stress levels and lower blood pressure, which may be responsible for the effect on memory.
If passed, this bill will go into effect 120 days after enactment.
