One of the stars of the Brooklyn Nets has appeared on global streamer DAZN’s “Whistle” segment, “Meet the Pets,” joining a long line of professional athletes to be featured on the global streaming platform.
In addition to the NBA’s Tyrese Haliburton, Jaden Ivey, and Lonnie Walker IV, Cameron Johnson and his mini Aussie Doodle “Halo” were featured on the Oct. 10 edition of the web series.
Johnson, a self-proclaimed “dog person,” revealed that being a pet owner has taught him “responsibility.”
“You can feel their personalities. They do a lot of really funny things and you can see every moment of it,” he said. “You can see moments of growth, you can see light bulbs go on, and you’re teaching[Halo]certain things, and sometimes you think, ‘Oh, she’s going to figure this out. I don’t have any, so I don’t think it’s worth it anymore.”
“Next thing you know, she got it.”
Johnson and Halo then performed various tricks as part of the show’s “Pet Challenge.”
“She makes the house feel like home,” he said. “It doesn’t matter. No matter the hard days, the long days, the good days, the bad days, when I come home she’s so excited. That kind of joy doesn’t come very often.”
In the second half of the six-minute video, Johnson gave fans a tour of his home. He showed off memorabilia from his time with Brooklyn and the Phoenix Suns, including a photo from the Nets’ 2023 playoff series against the Philadelphia 76ers.
The 28-year-old captured then-MVP Joel Embiid “slipping” en route to a wicked dunk, creating a picture-perfect moment that was printed and sent to Johnson’s parents. It was signed as a gift.
As Brooklyn embarks on its first year of rebuilding, upbeat segments like this provide a refreshing balance to the challenges ahead.
