Dutch singer Naomi Sharon knew her future from an early age. “I was already interested in music when I was three or four years old,” Sharon told ESSENCE. “If you see someone on TV, you think, ‘Oh, that’s me.’ It’s something I’ve always dreamed of doing.” The emotional depth of her sound comes from not only coming from a music-centered family. , this can be attributed to the fact that it has been inspired by many culture-bending genres.

Now, as the first female artist signed to Drake’s record label, OVO Sound, Sharon’s debut album, Obsidian (2023), a diary-like 16-track project that explores her vulnerability, , turned her into a notable singer-songwriter. Musical references from Stevie Wonder and Sting to Eva Cassidy and The Shard are felt in her unparalleled sound.
But learning from industry greats is more than just a reference point for the voices around her. “Madonna was in the early 2000s, when she had dark hair and everything was a little gothic and cool toned,” she says of her beauty inspirations. “When I go back to my inspiration board, I look at photos from that era, not just of her, but of artists in general.”

Currently, as the opener of Thames’ Born in the Wild tour, Sharon’s beauty in sound, skin and makeup is attracting attention and delighting the ears. What are her beauty habits? “I love Korean skin care,” she says. “I think they’re living in the future. I’m addicted to Medicube (a brand),” she added of the viral brand known for its Age-R Booster device.

When it comes to makeup, lovers of cool tones will, of course, be introduced to Madonna with the Makeup By Mario and Huda Beauty eyeshadow palettes. “I like to try new things every show, but I never do warmer tones,” she explains. Her natural beauty isn’t just limited to her face, she chopped off her hair to categorically discourage her obsession with weaves. “I was addicted, and the only way to quit was to cut it out,” she says. Still, “I still love to transform from time to time,” she says. This gives us a hint of what we can expect next from this up-and-coming artist, both musically and aesthetically. “I feel that a new era is coming.”
