In search of a record-tying victory, Eisenhower will make the long trip to Greenville for the final regular season football game today at 7 p.m.
The Knights (4-5) will face a team that Eisenhower head coach Jim Penley says “plays great, technically sound football.”
“They’re not the biggest team or the fastest team,” Penley said. They are very disciplined and very well coached. They rarely make mistakes. ”
Greenville (8-1) was led by senior quarterback Nick Solderich, who completed just 43 passes (43-of-67) for 781 yards and 10 touchdowns. He was intercepted three times.
Greenville’s rushing attack is led by Solderich, who had 67 carries for 691 yards and 10 touchdowns, with junior Rudy Gentile close behind with 645 yards and nine touchdowns on 86 carries. I was there.
“They have great athletes who make plays when they need to,” Penry said. “We have to slow them down.”
The Knights’ offense is similar to Greenville’s in that it is led by junior quarterback Caleb Yakuczak. He had 667 yards rushing, seven touchdowns and 544 passing yards through the air. He threw five touchdowns. Junior Logan Penley was a mainstay for Eisenhower, gaining 735 yards on 141 carries. He also added seven touchdowns. Teammate Joe Gigliotti, a sophomore, gained 266 yards on just 17 carries and proved to be a scoring threat whenever he has the ball.
The Knights are counting on the return of their leading receiver, junior Tanner Lukenhaus, who missed the past two games.
Eisenhower’s defense has proven to be a ball-winning defense, with 10 interceptions and five fumble recoveries. Jakubchak leads the way with six of those interceptions.
“To be in the best position to win, we have to play like we did in the first half last week against Mercyhurst Prep, which was some of the best football we’ve played all year,” Coach Penley said. “It was,” he said. “We need to stay disciplined and focus on our responsibilities off the ball or Greenville will control the game.”
