Australian supermodel Miranda Kerr has revealed her secret battle with a painful inflammatory disease for many years.
Ms Kerr, 41, said she was diagnosed with proctitis, an inflammation of the lining of the rectum, while pregnant with her second son, Hart.
The former Victoria’s Secret Angel welcomed her now 6-year-old son with Snapchat founder husband Evan Spiegel in 2018.
She said her battle with the disease has been difficult.
“It’s autoimmune and we don’t necessarily have an answer as to why, which is frustrating,” she told Get the Gloss on Tuesday.
The model said she has been drinking a liter of organic celery juice every morning on an empty stomach after learning it was a common condition in people with inflammatory bowel disease (IBS).
“I force it, but my husband always drinks his coffee first. He says nothing is going to keep me away from coffee!” she said. .
Kerr also treats her son Flynn, who is from her marriage to actor Orlando Bloom, with juice.
She credits anti-inflammatory plants and other lifestyle changes with helping her gut heal.
The New South Wales-born model reportedly backed her admission after a recent colonoscopy revealed her proctitis is now in remission.
Proctitis is known to cause rectal pain, diarrhea, bleeding, and discharge, as well as the need for continuous bowel movements.
Kerr began dating Spiegel in 2015, before she was diagnosed, and announced her engagement to the American-French businessman a year later.
For her 2017 wedding, she wore a custom Dior wedding dress by designer Maria Grazia Chiuri.
The couple have three sons, Hart, Miles, 5, and Pierre, who was born in February.
