Several Florida airports are scheduled to close as the storm approaches.
Passengers are advised to check with their airline for the latest flight information and updates.
Tampa International Airport said it plans to suspend flight operations at 9 a.m. Tuesday and resume operations when it is safe to do so and all damage can be assessed. Airport officials said the airport is in the “A” evacuation zone and is not an evacuation site for people or vehicles. St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport announced it will close after the last flight departs on Tuesday and remain closed until Thursday because the airport is in a mandatory evacuation zone. Orlando International Airport will cease operations starting at 8 a.m. Wednesday. Southwest Florida International Airport in Lee County, Florida, will suspend flights on Wednesday and Thursday. Miami International Airport and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport will remain open as neither is currently in Milton’s path, but officials are monitoring the storm’s movement.
Weather conditions could lead to more delays, cancellations and even ground stops at South Florida airports, including Miami, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood and Palm Beach International Airport, said Wes Atkins of the National Weather Service at the FAA. Said it was expensive. The closer Milton gets to our state, the worse it gets.
