Several thread accounts showing publicly available data on private jet travel of the world’s richest and most famous people have been silenced.
The year-old social media platform owned by Meta posted on Monday an account showing the flight path of a private jet owned by Meta CEO and co-founder Mark Zuckerberg, as well as other accounts showing similar data for private jets. Some accounts were suddenly suspended. Featuring Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, Kim Kardashian, and Kylie Jenner. On Friday, the account that was tracking Taylor Swift’s jet was suspended.
All accounts were managed by Jack Sweeney. Jack Sweeney, a college student, gained public notoriety when Musk took over Twitter in 2022 and Sweeney banned similar jet-tracking accounts, including one that tracked Musk’s own jets. Sweeney has shifted much of his jet-tracking efforts to threading his dispute with Musk.
Sweeney posted on the thread from his personal account that all of the jet-tracking accounts he maintained on the meta platform were two: one that tracked a jet used by former President Donald Trump, and one that tracked that jet. “It’s totally weird,” Sweeney added.
Although all of the private jet data displayed on the Sweeney’s Thread account is publicly available and managed by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, sharing the information on social media is not an option for many celebrity jet owners. It has sparked outrage, with people complaining that it violates their rights. their privacy.
Although Musk and Swift are at odds politically, Sweeney says he plans to sue the Jet account, calling it an “assassination plot” (Musk) and “stalking and harassment” (Swift). He is threatening Mr.
Sweeney’s description does not specify exactly where the plane or its crew will travel. Neither Musk nor Swift have taken formal legal action against him.
In a text message with Fortune, Sweeney said there was “zero” opportunity for explanation or appeal. “Even when I log in, it’s completely black.”
A representative for Meta did not respond to an email requesting comment.
