Central Catholic’s Financial Services Office recently moved to a new location within the school building, near the main lobby. The new environment gives you more space to carry out important responsibilities and provides easier access for office visitors. We’ve added some new members to our financial services staff, so we thought it would be helpful to introduce them all.
Julie Hegedus – Vice President of Finance and Human Resources
Julie Hegedus has worked at CCHS for nine years. She oversees accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting and reporting, payroll and benefits administration, and human resources issues. She graduated from Notre Dame Academy and received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Michigan State University.
Julie has previously worked in accounting and auditing for various nonprofit organizations, most recently at Harbor Behavioral Healthcare. After more than 12 years at Harbor, she was ready for a change when she heard about the opening at CCHS. “Growing up, I always wanted to be a teacher,” she explained. “I saw this as an opportunity to contribute both to the school and within my chosen profession.”
Julie’s twin sons, Dylan and Tyler, are fourth graders at Central Catholic. “Having my sons attend as students has been such a great experience!” she said. “They were the only ones to come to CCHS from their elementary school classes, and I’m so proud of how they’ve grown in every way over the years. Coming to Central Catholic every day is more than just a workplace. It feels like an extension of my home.”
Outside of work, Julie enjoys spending time with her husband Justin (CCHS Class of 1995) and their sons watching movies, reading, scrapbooking, and cheering on the Spartans. I’m here.
Vanessa Fuernstein – Accounts Receivable Specialist
Vanessa Fürnstein is responsible for student tuition accounts and has been working in this department since January 2023. Vanessa previously worked as the Resident Director at AVI Foodsystems in the CCHS Cafeteria from July 2019 to December 2021. She and her husband moved to Rochester, Minnesota. She worked at the Mayo Clinic. But after being away from home for a year, I decided that living far away from family and friends (and sub-zero weather) wasn’t as easy as I thought. Her husband found a job in Ann Arbor and they moved back.
Outside of work, Vanessa enjoys spending time with her family, including her husband Scott. her daughter Jackie; son, Lance; and their three fur babies: Charlie, Roger, and Craig. “Food is the number one thing we like to do in our down time!” Vanessa said. “My husband is a chef and loves trying different types of cuisine and new restaurants, but what he loves most is having family and friends over to his house and just eating delicious food and hanging out. .”
“I am so happy to be working at Central Catholic!” she added. “It feels like being at home!”
Brad Moshing – Accounts Payable
Brad Mossing graduated from Central Catholic in 2009 and began working in the CCHS Financial Services Office in November 2023. He works in the accounts payable department. That means analyzing contracts, paying bills, and trying to stay within budget. While a student at Central Catholic University, Brad was on the varsity wrestling team for four years. There is only one game left until the prefectural tournament. He won regional and state tournaments in Greco wrestling and represented Ohio in the National Greco Tournament.
Before working at Central Catholic, Brad owned a flooring company. But when he found the opportunity to coach high school wrestling, he realized he enjoyed being with kids. So he folded his business, looked for a high school job, and returned to CCHS. Brad is entering his fourth year as the head wrestling coach at Rogers High School. In the first year, one student-athlete advanced to the regional tournament, in the second year, six students advanced to the regional tournament, and in the third year, three students advanced to the regional tournament.
When Brad is not working at CCHS or coaching wrestling, he is busy raising his children. He and his wife Marissa have four children: Kenny (8), Issie (6), Amelia (4), and Sammy (2).
Christine Helminiak – Accountant
Christine Helminiak is an accountant with the Department of Financial Services and started working here in August. She graduated from Bay Shore High School in Bay Shore, New York and previously worked as a bookkeeper and human resources assistant. She wanted to work at Central Catholic because of its healthy spiritual atmosphere.
Outside of work, Christine loves gardening and enjoys interacting with others. “When I can go see my family, I like to escape to Long Island,” she said. “I love long drives to enjoy sunrises and sunsets and see all of God’s creation. I love hummingbirds and tropical flowers and Christ is my rock!”
Elaine Gabalac – EdChoice Coordinator
Elaine Gabalac is Central Catholic’s new EdChoice coordinator and also joined the staff in August. She grew up on the south shore of Lake Michigan, attended a Catholic boarding school in Indiana called Lalumiere School, and graduated from the University of Toledo. Before coming to CCHS, Elaine worked as an accounting staff member at the Ability Center, but prior to her passing she took time off to care for her mother and in-laws. She also works part-time in art.
Elaine came to work at Central Catholic for a variety of reasons. “The mission of CCHS, the fact that I am an Irish Catholic, and my experience at Lalumiere High School all influenced my decision,” she said. “I still have some of the closest friends I made in high school, in different parts of the country. The school worked hard to build community to foster success. , we hope to play a role in promoting that experience for this generation.”
Outside of work, Elaine said: I have learned to cook all kinds of dishes except French and Ethiopian, but I have also tasted them. The last cookbook I bought was for ramen, and for now my daughter is preparing it. I make hollandaise with herbs from my garden and it’s very delicious. I love it because there is no end to learning when it comes to cooking.
“I’m a part-time employee of Central Catholic, and I spend my time when I’m not here selling my father’s art in the Great Lakes area, because he painted beach scenes and ocean views. Because it’s a boat. Interestingly, he was self-taught colorblind, but you’ll never know.”
