Massachusetts wants to know more about you and your travel habits. You may receive a letter asking for your cooperation in the near future.
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation Planning and contractor RSG launched the first Massachusetts Travel Study since 2012.
“This latest statewide household travel survey is designed to measure and better understand changing travel patterns across the commonwealth,” the department said.
The Massachusetts Travel Survey website says, “We want to hear about your daily transportation habits. How do you travel? How far do you go? How much does it cost?”

“To ensure a representative sample of the population of Massachusetts, each randomly selected household will be asked to complete a socio-economic “You will be asked a series of detailed questions regarding your physical characteristics and access to transportation when traveling,” OTB said.
The Department of Transportation says, “This survey will be completely confidential to participants as all personally identifying information will be separated from the responses collected before results are provided to MassDOT.” .
The 2012 pre-pandemic survey “summarized data by geographic region and general socio-economic categories.”
MassDOT “encourages everyone who receives an invitation to participate in the study, as this data will help inform MassDOT’s capital investment, service delivery, and transportation planning decisions.”
“Upon completion, all participating household members will receive a gift card to be used at select retailers,” MassDOT said.
Invitations to participate in the survey will be issued throughout the fall. You can also participate via smartphone app, online, or by phone by visiting the Massachusetts Travel Survey website.
