Photographer Aaron Marvin has organized “Natural Niwel – Photo Exhibition” to introduce naturalists. This impressive photography collection recently opened at ArtWalk, located inside the Main Library downtown. This exhibition celebrates the beauty and diversity of hair and examines how it plays an important part of our identity. “From the moment we are born, our hair defines our personality,” Marvin said.
The exhibit is curated by Aaron Marvin, a graduate of Terry Parker High School and an accomplished photographer of 40 years. Marvin earned his AS degree in Photography on the Daytona State University campus.
“I got my first camera when I was 15, made $100 doing it, and the rest is history,” Marvin smiled. Always looking for visual projects that educate and nurture the minds of his customers, the “Natural New” exhibition represents his testimony about black hair traditions around the world.
Nywele means hair in Swahili and is used to define hair care products and salon establishments for black hair. The purpose of the project was to showcase exhibitors’ trends in exploring African American hairstyles and to showcase the beauty and diversity of natural black hair. Previous exhibits by Marvin have been on display for many years.
